SigEp with match you with a career coach whether you are a freshman or a senior, whether you are interviewing for your first job or simply trying to figure out what major you should pursue.
UNDERGRADUATE BROTHERS, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A COACH?
The relationship between you and your career coach should primarily be driven by you! Once you are matched with a coach, you will do the following:
Own the logistics: You are responsible for the initial outreach to your career coach and should do the ‘heavy lifting’ with regards to setting a meeting time, confirming your meeting, setting expectations, etc.
Prepare for your meeting/call: Because this opportunity primarily benefits you, plan to take ownership over driving the agenda and being clear about your desired outcomes. We will provide you with some sample emails, questions, etc to help you; however, it is important that you go into this conversation with a clear understanding of what you want to achieve and that your coach is equally as aware. Additionally, be sure you do your research on your coach ahead of time so you are prepared with well thought out questions and discussion topics.
Appreciate the time of your coach: Your coach is a volunteer, giving his time for the betterment of you so continue to be cognizant of this throughout the process. This means being on-time for calls, engaging in meaningful conversations, being flexible and certainly sending a follow-up thank you note.
Collaborate with your coach: Having someone else invested in your development will be inherently valuable. You should use this opportunity to take in knowledge, experience and expertise and work collaboratively with them on goals, action items, ideas, etc.

ALUMNI BROTHERS, WANT TO BE A CAREER COACH?
We are so appreciative of the time and effort you are offering to our undergraduate brothers. To best set them up for success, we’ve developed a few expectations for you, as a coach, that complement those communicated to our undergraduates:
Leave control to the student: Since this opportunity primarily benefits our undergraduate brothers, we have asked them to do the ‘heavy lifting’ with regards to setting a meeting time, desired outcomes, etc. They should be doing the initial outreach to you within five days; if you have not heard anything by then, please e-mail events@sigep.net.
Prepare for your meeting/call.: We have provided you with the basic information your undergraduate brother submitted during the registration process. Please review in advance to gain a better understanding of his experiences and what he is looking to gain out of your time together.
Ask questions: Although we are providing students with some sample agendas, questions, etc, for many, this may be the first professional development conversation they’ve had or led. Be prepared to ask questions to understand where he is and what he’s looking for out of your coaching session – more than what he stated on his registration. While you undoubtedly have a fountain of information to share with a young brother, asking questions will lead to the most effective use of everyone’s time.
